A favorite subject amongst painters in Bali, this traditional martial dance is performed in two ways. One, the 'Baris Gede ' is danced by a group of older men whose gestures imitate those of soldiers in battle. It is also a solo dance which is a character study of a warrior as he prepares for and engages in combat. The solo dance is quite often danced by a young boy 9 or 10 years old. This dance is performed as part of a religious Hindu temple ceremony. Bapak Munadi, the artist, resides in Gianyar in Bali.
