Duryudana - Wayang Golek King

Eldest son and leader of the one hundred Korawa brothers and King of Hastina, Duryudana was opposed to his cousins, the Pandawas, in the great Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. Having taken the throne of Hastina, which rightfully belonged to the eldest Pandawa, Yudhistira, he schemed to destroy the Pandawas through trickery and finally war. He lived to see his son and most of his brothers killed and was finally done in by his lifelong enemy, Bima, one of the famous Pandawa brothers.

Duryudana was noted for his brutality, ambition and stubborness. Having more than one name, like many of the Kesatria heroes, his good qualities of generosity to his people, family loyalty and competence as a ruler are attributed to his alter ego, Suyudana.
